Plus: It looks nice and functions as advertised. My daughter loves the desk. She just had a sleep over and everyone was happy with the set up. It is heavy, so I have faith that it will hold up.
Minus: Getting the bed was a pain. It took forever to get. There was no communication from RoomSmart. I called to cancel after about three months and they told me it would be shipped right away. Most of it was shipped within the week. I had to call a couple more times to track down a mattress and missing pieces. Hopefully the last of them will arrive soon.
A number of pieces arrived scratched. I bought some laminate repair to fix it up, but haven't gotten around to using it yet.
Notes: The bed is tall. We have 8 ft ceilings and while my daughter can sit upright in the bed, she says coming down the ladder is hard with the ceiling so close. Probably better for a home with 9+ ft ceilings.
The bed when all packed up was huge and heavy. The delivery company was reluctant to deliver because they thought it was going to fall off the lift gate on the back of the truck. We figured it wouldn't be too bad to get in the house once we unpacked it, but we were lucky that a neighbor and contractor happened to be out and could help because even the individual boxes were heavy.
My husband was able to put the bed together mostly by himself. He needed me for some of it. He found the directions frustrating. They are just pictures, and not very good ones at that.
The hardest part of the assembly was getting the full bed support in place. It is one huge piece and very heavy. And it didn't easily fit in the spot it needed to go. In the end we needed four people: one holding the bed strapped to his back, two helping lift and guide, and one person inside where the bed goes with a crowbar to force it in place.
We got this bed because we have a small bedroom that we also need to act as a guest room. It provides a lofted bed and desk when it is just my daughter, and sleeping for three when we need it. This was the best solution for what we needed. Even with all the problems, I don't regret the purchase, and if you have a similar situation, I would recommend the bed.
